For the third time, Rovaniemi-based entrepreneurs Heidi and Ville Haavikko are opening the doors of the Arctic SnowHotel to locals, offering unforgettable snow and ice experiences, free of charge.
The open doors event offers a variety of winter activities for the whole family, including ice sculpting, circus and fire shows, playful competitions, as well as free access to the Arctic SnowHotel on Saturday, January 25th. The event program also includes the international snow and ice sculpting competition, the Arctic Art Festival, featuring the world’s best ice and snow sculptors. A free bus shuttle is available from Rovaniemi city center to the Arctic SnowHotel, located in Lehtojärvi.
A day filled with winter art, fun activities, exciting competitions, and amazing prizes for the whole family to enjoy!
Look forward to snowy outdoor games, ice sculpting workshops, sound bowl performances, and a treasure hunt where you can win a night in a glass igloo for autumn 2025. The finder of the secret room could be the very first to spend a night in a room that no one has visited before. Returning by popular demand from last winter, the kicksled race is back, now joined by an exhilarating sledding competition with snow tubes. Both competitions will have separate categories for children and adults, with prizes including kicksleds and personal snow tubing donuts. The event will be made even more delightful by the adorable presence of Bearhill Husky’s dogs.

The highlights of the open doors event are sure to include spectacular performances, such as the speed ice carving competition where the world’s top sculptors showcase their skills. You can also enjoy circus shows, breathtaking group acrobatics, relaxing sound healing, a fire show, and the third annual Arctic Art – International snow sculpting sompetition. Be amazed by stunning works of art as artists from around the globe transform snow and ice into incredible sculptures, demonstrating their talent and imagination. This year’s theme, Outside the canvas, invites limitless creativity. A panel of judges will evaluate the sculptures, and the audience will have the chance to vote for their favorite. The competition’s winners will be celebrated during the grand finale of the open doors event.

A complimentary shuttle bus service will run from Rovaniemi city center from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The last bus back to the city center will depart at 8:00 PM.
